Bow Cleaner is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, contractors, clients, visitors, and members of the public who may be affected by our cleaning activities. This Health and Safety policy sets out the principles and procedures that guide our operations and supports compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and industry best practice.
This policy applies to all Bow Cleaner staff and contractors carrying out cleaning services at any site. Everyone working for or on behalf of Bow Cleaner is required to follow this policy and the associated procedures, method statements, and risk assessments.
Our primary health and safety objectives are to prevent accidents, occupational ill health, and damage to property, and to promote continuous improvement in our safety performance. We seek to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement practical control measures in all areas of our cleaning work, including routine tasks, specialist cleaning, and any non-routine activities.
We will provide appropriate information, instruction, training, and supervision so that our people can work safely and are competent to carry out the tasks expected of them. We also aim to foster a positive health and safety culture in which everyone feels responsible for their own safety and that of others.
Senior management at Bow Cleaner has overall responsibility for health and safety within the company. This includes setting health and safety objectives, ensuring adequate resources are made available, and reviewing performance. Management will ensure that suitable and sufficient risk assessments are completed for all cleaning activities and that safe systems of work are implemented and maintained.
Managers and supervisors are responsible for ensuring that staff follow the agreed safe working procedures, use equipment correctly, wear the appropriate personal protective equipment, and report any concerns. They are also responsible for investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses, and for implementing corrective and preventive measures.
All employees and contractors working for Bow Cleaner have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. They must cooperate with the company in implementing this policy and follow all health and safety instructions, training, and site rules.
Employees must use cleaning products, equipment, and machinery only as trained and in accordance with manufacturer guidance and company procedures. They must wear and correctly maintain any protective clothing or equipment provided, report defects in equipment, and notify management of any hazards, accidents, or near misses without delay.
Bow Cleaner conducts risk assessments for all significant hazards associated with our cleaning services. These include, but are not limited to, slips, trips and falls, manual handling, use of chemicals, work at height, electrical safety, lone working, and use of machinery. The findings of the risk assessments are used to develop safe systems of work, method statements, and site-specific instructions.
Risk assessments are reviewed regularly and when there are changes to work activities, equipment, substances, or locations. Staff are informed of the relevant risk assessment findings and are trained in the safe systems of work that apply to their tasks.
Bow Cleaner controls the use of cleaning chemicals and other hazardous substances through appropriate assessment, selection, storage, and training. Only approved chemicals are used, and these must be handled strictly in line with labels, safety data information, and company procedures.
Employees are instructed never to mix chemicals, to use the correct dilution as specified, and to ensure that containers are clearly labelled and stored securely. Adequate ventilation will be maintained where chemicals are used, and suitable personal protective equipment such as gloves, eye protection, and masks will be provided as identified by risk assessment.
All cleaning equipment and machinery used by Bow Cleaner must be suitable for the task, properly maintained, and inspected at appropriate intervals. Defective equipment must be reported immediately and taken out of use until repaired or replaced. Only trained and authorised personnel may use powered equipment such as scrubber dryers, polishers, and vacuum cleaners designed for specialist tasks.
Bow Cleaner provides personal protective equipment where risks cannot be adequately controlled by other means. Employees are required to use this equipment as instructed, keep it in good condition, and report any damage or loss. The company will replace or repair personal protective equipment as required.
Bow Cleaner ensures that staff receive initial and ongoing training in health and safety relevant to their role and level of responsibility. This includes induction training, task-specific training, refresher training, and updates when new procedures, equipment, or products are introduced.
Information about hazards, risks, emergency procedures, and safe working practices is communicated clearly to employees. Supervisors monitor working practices, provide guidance on site, and take action where unsafe behaviour or conditions are identified.
Good housekeeping is essential to safe cleaning operations. Bow Cleaner staff are required to keep work areas tidy, store equipment and materials safely, and promptly deal with spillages. Warning signs and barriers must be used where there is a risk to others, particularly during floor cleaning and wet mopping.
Staff must route cables to prevent trip hazards, avoid obstructing fire exits and walkways, and be mindful of clients, visitors, and the public when working in occupied areas. Where work at height is required, only appropriate equipment, such as approved steps or platforms, may be used and staff must follow the relevant safe working procedures.
All accidents, incidents, near misses, and health and safety concerns must be reported to Bow Cleaner management as soon as possible. Incidents are recorded, investigated, and reviewed to identify root causes and to implement measures to prevent recurrence.
Emergency procedures, including fire evacuation, first aid arrangements, and spill response, will be communicated to staff for each site where they work. Employees must familiarise themselves with these procedures and follow instructions given by site representatives and emergency services.
Bow Cleaner is committed to consulting with employees on health and safety matters and encouraging them to raise suggestions for improvement. Feedback from staff, clients, and other stakeholders is used to refine our approach and improve working conditions.
This Health and Safety policy is reviewed regularly and updated when necessary to reflect changes in legislation, business activities, and best practice. The latest version of the policy is made available to all employees and can be provided to clients on request.
By working together to follow this policy and related procedures, Bow Cleaner aims to deliver high quality cleaning services while protecting the health, safety, and wellbeing of everyone involved.
